Which class is for you?
Our classes are designed to be accessible to everyone – we even offer a FREE community class every Wednesday that is a gentle yoga class. Our teachers are all highly qualified and passionate about what they do so you are in great hands. Men and women are encouraged to attend and our classes are open to all levels – although if you are completely new to yoga and exercise it would be best to start with a gentle or restorative class to ease you in!
Ease into Monday
A lovely gentle start to the week at 7.30am on a Monday. This is the perfect class to coax you into the week ahead with gentle stretches and a little flow. This class is suitable for all levels including beginners / new yogis.
Dynamic Yoga Flow
As the name suggests, this class is fairly fast moving – you will leave feeling like you have exercised as it is physically challenging. It incorporates a variety of yoga postures and combines in some fitness work too. This is a class that is designed to develop strength, flexibility and endurance. We move from posture to posture using the breath and ease of movement to flow and sequence together complimentary movements that may at times challenge but will always be fun.
This class is most suitable for people who have some previous fitness or yoga experience – but there will always be options to make the class work for you.
This is a wonderful class to immerse yourself into complete relaxation. Often referred to a yogic sleep, it allows participants to find a state between sleep and wakefulness allowing you to tap into the subconscious and unconscious mind. The class is 100% relaxation so wear warm and comfortable clothes. Participants tell us they always sleep better after doing this class and just feel like they have nurtured themselves in the midst of busy lives. Perfect! Our Nidra classes are always done by candlelight and warm blankets are provided. Apparently a Nidra class can give the same benefits as 4 hours of deep restful sleep!
Gentle Yoga / Community Class
Yay – a free class or by optional donation to the YMCA’s charitable work. The aim being to give everyone the opportunity to try yoga – allowing the class to be truly inclusive. It is a gentle class designed to move with ease and freedom between postures, restoring and balancing the body and mind. Accessible for all levels of practitioners, from complete beginners to the more experienced yogi.
Free or by optional donation to support the charitable work of YMCA Bath Group – predominantly working with vulnerable young people. Please donate if you can!
A restorative class where postures are held for a longer period of time (normally 3 – 5 minutes) to allow the body to settle into the pose with an emphasis on softening, patience and kindness to ourselves. A lovely simple form of yoga using props such as bolsters and blankets ~ to support and nurture us. It is slow, soft and relaxing.
Yoga / Yoga flow
These classes incorporate Hatha yoga with flowing sequences designed to build strength, flexibility and endurance. You will learn many of the popular poses we see today and be shown techniques to start to develop your yoga practice. The classes will also normally include a relaxation period towards the end of the class to calm both the body and mind. Suitable for participants of all levels.
Friday Fiery Flow 7.30am
Without the intensive heat of hot yoga, these warm flow classes are perfect for the chilly mornings but also a great way to build up a sweat in the warmer months. A vinyasa-based practice incorporating popular postures sequenced to offer some challenges and a whole lot of fun. You will leave feeling ready to launch yourself into your perfect day.
A very gentle class in a warm but not hot studio, where the focus is on calming, gentle yoga postures to ease you into your day and leave you feeling gently stretched and perfectly relaxed.
Warm flow yoga
Using popular and accessible yoga postures and sequences to build strength and flexibility within a warm but not hot temperature.
HIIT Yoga High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT)

Bursts of intense body weight exercises carefully blended together to help unlock the fat-burning, metabolism-boosting, heart-pounding benefits of High Intensity Interval Training.
Yoga flow – flowing yoga postures carefully weaved together and designed to be synchronised to your breath to leave you feeling balanced, stretched, relaxed and energised.

The class teaches mindfulness and meditation techniques alongside make yoga assessable and a lot of fun. Children age 11+ plus one adult (£5) and there is a £3 charge for any additional siblings.

Yoga retreat in Sri Lanka Nov 2018 – a sell out success! Next yoga holiday planned for 31st March 2020.
YMCA Bath Group took a group of 17 yogis to Sri Lanka in Nov 18 for a week of yoga, sun, SUP, tea planatations, safaris and so much more…. We were hosted by the wonderful Glenda and Peter Botes who opened their own boutique hotel Plantation House, in Hikkaduwa – Sri Lanka – where we based the retreat from but also used accommodation at both Plantation House and next door Vesma Villas. Glenda is also a member of the YMCA and loves all the classes we offer and is especially a regular at indoor cycling and yoga.
Plantation House, is a new, modern villa, built in 2017 with all the requirements for a relaxed holiday in beautiful Sri Lanka. With spacious accommodation leading onto a wide veranda, cooled by paddle fans, overlooking a lovely garden, with swaying coconut trees, and a sparkling swimming pool. There is an outdoor dining area and yoga platform beside the pool, to enjoy as much of the beautiful weather, as possible. The villa is completely air-conditioned, to ensure a good night’s rest. Next door in Vesma Villas we benefited from similar accommodation.
The Plantation House villa is owned and run by Peter & Glenda Botes, which is just a 5 minute walk to the famous swimming, surfing, and holiday beach of Hikkaduwa. Hikkaduwa, is a well-known holiday destination, with a chilled, laidback atmosphere.
After flying into Colombo, guests were met by a private driver and transferred by air-conditioned mini-van or bus to Plantation House. This is approximately a 2-hour drive on the new motorway, down the South Coast.
Hikkaduwa is a bustling town and while it’s a tourist destination, it has not lost the charm which is evident by all the markets & local traders. The next main town down the South Coast is the famous walled city of Galle, which is a 15 minute car/bus/tuk-tuk drive away. Galle is rich in history dating back to the days of the Portuguese & Dutch settlers, and a must for a visit on your trip.
Hikkaduwa beach is long stretch with beautiful soft white sand, lined by coconut trees, perfect for lazing the day away, dipping often into the warm waters of the Indian Ocean. For the early riser, a great way to start the day is a walk or run on the beach, with a quick dip in the ocean before returning for breakfast – which will be served on the outdoor terrace.
The local beach has an assortment of restaurants serving breakfast, lunch & dinner, offering everything from a typical English breakfast to Sri Lankan & International Cuisine. The local fishermen take their boats out early each morning, so fresh fish is a definite on every menu. One must not miss the spectacular sunsets, a perfect spot to sip a cool drink, at the end of the day.
There is an excellent yoga studio a short bike or tuk tuk ride from Plantation House, where 2 classes per day are on offer, that we were also able to access.
What we did – we offered 2 yoga classes a day (morning and evening) and occasional pool yoga in the afternoon. We made the most of Glenda and Peter’s local knowledge and visited: tea and spice plantations, the Tsunami museum and memorials, a turtle sanctury, busy town of Galle, we went stand up paddleboarding, visited temples, great eateries, had a beach side BBQ, optional cookery lessons, and some went off on Safari for a day. Considering we were only there for a week – we crammed in so much.
‘Best holiday I have ever had’ – Natalie
‘I loved that we actually got to swim with turtles in the sea’ – Sarah
‘We did so much – highlight was the SUP’ – Jen
